Volunteer Spotlight: A Spirit to Help Survivors

By Raissa Valencia, Hubbard House Community Engagement Coordinator

Hubbard House is celebrating our amazing volunteers, who are such an important part of our life-saving, life-changing services. With more than 7,400 hours donated by volunteers last year, we couldn’t do this work without this team! One such volunteer who embodies the heart for this work is Georgia Sims.

Georgia has been part of the Hubbard House family for nearly two decades, most recently as a volunteer.

Her calm and empathetic nature shines through in every role she’s taken on – from the nightshift hotline, to court advocacy, to supporting daily life in Shelter.

All along the way, Georgia says her “spirit” has always called her to help. And that call is strong.

In just the past two years, Georgia has contributed nearly 500 hours of volunteer service – bringing not only her time, but deep compassion and heart to every interaction.

Much of Georgia’s work has been on the hotline, often the first step for survivors seeking safety, and she says the strength of survivors inspires her. As a survivor herself, Georgia understands firsthand the importance of services and support that organizations like Hubbard House provide.

Georgia’s commitment is a powerful reflection of the impact volunteers have at Hubbard House. Her dedication, empathy, and generosity continue to inspire our team and strengthen our mission every day. Simply put, we could not do this life-saving work without volunteers like Georgia.
