Last year alone, Hubbard House sheltered more than 1,000 women and children. On an average day, anywhere from 60 to 80 people live at the Hubbard House shelter. You can say we have a full house! Our “house” is always in need of everyday household and personal care items. Keep in mind, a family of 80 goes through a lot of toilet paper and Chef Boyardee.
What can you do to help?
Tons! Whether your church, business, civic group, family, or even you as an individual want to help, a collection drive is a simple way that ANYONE can do so. Need a collection drive idea? Listed below are the items most needed at our shelter:
- **Help stock our food pantry: Pastas, soups, juice boxes, hamburger helper, canned vegetables, individual snack size crackers, cereals, macaroni and cheese, tuna fish, salt, pepper and other spices
- **“Shower” our babies: Diapers (sizes 3 to 5), blankets, baby wipes, pacifiers, bottles, bottle cleaners
- Help stock the linen closet: Blankets, pillows, sheets, towels, washcloths
- Help keep it clean: Bleach, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap
- Help take care of personal needs: Body wash, loofah, soap, conditioner, shampoo, deodorant, perfume, toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, feminine hygiene
- Help stock the kitchen cabinets: Pots, pans, dishware, silverware, mixing bowls, mixing spoons, measuring cups, can openers, spatulas, tongs, oven mitts
- Give a smile to a child entering shelter: Crayons, activity books, small stuffed animal(new), travel size puzzles
- Help lift a victim’s spirit: Puzzle books, stationary, stamps, nice writing pens, journals, address books
- Help our families with general needs: Gift cards to Winn-Dixie, Wal-Mart, Publix and any gas station. Denominations can vary.
- Help is a phone call away: Old, used, and even broken cell phones, donated to Hubbard House, are recycled through the Shelter Alliance program to raise much-needed funds to support the programs and services Hubbard House provides to victims of domestic violence.
