Hubbard House has been awarded a $10,000 grant from The Allstate Foundation to support its domestic violence emergency services and shelter.
This grant comes at a critical time for Hubbard House, a time when the economy is creating an increase in the demand for services but a decrease in funding. Within the last year, Hubbard House has provided its life-saving services to 13 percent more people – that’s 656 more victims and their children – all while experiencing a 12 percent reduction in staff because donations are down.
Coinciding with the statistics Hubbard House has seen, the city of Jacksonville has also seen a 10 percent increase in domestic violence police reports while all other violent crime is down.
“These statistics are sobering – each number represents women, children, and men whose lives have been turned upside down by someone who is supposed to love them,” said Jami Bueker, Chief Development Officer of Hubbard House. “We are grateful for the help that The Allstate Foundation is giving to us to support our efforts with ending domestic violence.”
“Together with The Allstate Foundation, we are building relationships with local non-profits that are providing essential services to the people of Northeast Florida,” said David Bird, President, Allstate Workplace Division. “We recommended Hubbard House because of their commitment to making our community a better and safer place to live.”
Within the last year Hubbard House provided services to 6,231 victims of domestic violence and their children, answered 3, 429 hotline calls, and provided 48,599 hours of counseling.
