The Hubbard House “First Step” Batterers’ Intervention program offers a means for batterers to examine and change their controlling behaviors and their belief systems in an effort to stop the abusive cycle. Hubbard House offers two programs, one for men and one for women.

First Step for Men

First Step for Men is a state certified 26-week course that includes a two-week enrollment/orientation process and 24 classes. The program is offered at community locations throughout the Hubbard House service area. While enrollment in the program is open to the public, the majority of those who attend are court ordered. Topics include violent versus non-violent conflict resolution, emotional abuse versus respect, and intimidation versus non-threatening behavior.

If you want more information or would like to enroll in one of the First Step programs, call (904) 354-0076 ext. 201, 283 or 280.

First Step for Women

First Step for Women and educates women who have been arrested for violence against their intimate partner or who have been referred by the court or other agencies. As with First Step for Men, the program is open to the public; however, the majority of those who attend are court ordered.
